True Values

Probate and Pre-Probate Valuations of your estate – for its true worth

True Values

I’m Gordon Brockman

I live in Stourhead, Wiltshire, and I have been an auctioneer for over 20 years.

During that time, I have worked with large auction houses and as a freelance auctioneer and valuer. Whilst I have a broad knowledge of my subject and can value most things, I specialise in jewellery, silver and gold. If I don’t immediately know the true value of something, then I am always happy to undertake some research. To me, that is all part of the fun.

My True Values

Having been in the business for many years, I have seen many instances of families being ripped off by unscrupulous traders. It was seeing how families were missing out on what was rightfully theirs that I set up True Values.

I wanted to offer a more ethical way of helping families deal with probate. Selling your loved ones’ valuables Is difficult enough without someone giving you a low price only to walk away with a huge profit at auction.

With me, what you see is what you get. I use my years of experience and knowledge to give you my best advice and do my best to get you the highest price.

Star Of Stage And Screen

You may have seen me on television or in the press, as I am often asked to share my stories and expertise. I once auctioned the items the celebrities had chosen on the Antiques Road Trip, and I also took part in the BBC programme Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.

I am passionate about antiques and love to share my knowledge with others. You will often find me giving talks or providing valuations to local clubs and societies.

Giving Back

Charity auctions

As well as being in demand as a speaker, I also do my fair share of charity work. I have helped to raise over £100,000 for good causes and frequently conduct charity auctions for local charities in and around Wiltshire as well as national charities such as Diabetes UK.

If you are looking for a knowledgeable host who can keep a crowd entertained with stories of uncovered treasures, amusing anecdotes and witty repartee, please contact me.

Julie from New Forest

It was an easy choice for us to choose Gordon Brockman out of three different house clearance companies. He came across as being totally genuine and honest, with a wonderful sense of spirit. My husband and I had already put the contents of his parents’ house into different piles – one for charity, one for disposal and one for hopeful auction of some questionable pieces. Gordon breezed through the rooms and could see at a glance the pieces that he recommended for auction sales.

We were bowled over by him pointing out some tatty Japanese tins, which we were going to throw in the bin, to which he replied in no uncertain terms that each could fetch between £65-£80 at auction!

I could go on about other contents but, suffice to say, we benefitted hugely from his exceptional service. Several years later, we chose Mr Brockman again to value the contents of my parents’ house after probate. Again he came up trumps and, to this day, we have recommended him to friends and neighbours.

JM from Malmesbury

I asked Gordon to provide a valuation of my late mother’s jewellery and cutlery, for probate purposes, towards the end of 2019. Extremely helpful throughout, Gordon guided me through the whole process. He came to the house to assess everything and provided me with a detailed valuation within a few days.

He then gave me a very fair price for some of the items and helped me to sell the remainder at auction, using his detailed knowledge of the local markets to place items in the most appropriate sales.

D Harrison from Devon

When my mum passed away in November 2019, she left some jewellery and sovereigns that hadn’t seen the light of day for years. None of the items were particularly valuable in their own right but, together, they were worth a tidy sum.

Gordon was very knowledgeable and offered me a really good price for all, while suggesting items I might like to keep for posterity, such as an engraved gold brooch with an inscription dated 1844.

With the money he offered me, I was able to purchase a very nice watch, which I wear everyday and which reminds me of my parents. I would highly recommend him.
